Following the untimely passing of her godmother, Laura finds herself the benefactor of a picturesque seaside B&B. She’s soon plunged into the life of hospitality, catering for the needs of her eclectic guests, with help from her vibrant and fun-loving friend, Amy.
However, the cosy seaside lifestyle she hopes for is soon dominated by her mischievous pup, an unwelcome ex-boyfriend, seaside storms and the search for long-lost family.
If her new life isn’t challenging enough, she also has a battle on her hands against her own emotions, as the brooding, handsome village vet upsets her cosy applecart.
Writing a book had always been number one on my bucket list and following a very stressful year back in 2018, I took the plunge and decided to make my dream a reality. My first novel, 'If Only You Knew' was written just for me and I never intended to publish it. I wrote it as a way of escaping the stresses of everyday life. It gave me such a focus. Everything around me became an inspiration. People, gardens, homes, even brick-work! Because I didn't want to just look at it anymore, I wanted to know how to write about it. It became a sensory overload!
As regards plots and characters, they always say, write what you know about and that's what I try to do. Like most people in life, I've had my heart-broken, I've lost loved ones and I've gone through periods of deep unhappiness, but I use these experiences by writing about them, in the hope they'll help others. Yes, my books are romance based, and yes, the woman always gets her man, but there's also moments of sadness (tissues at the ready), hard times to overcome and personal battles to be fought, but isn't that everyday life? My books are feel good, they always have a Happy Every After, but in the middle they let go of 'perfect' because to most of us, perfect doesn't exist; and its this mix (or so I've been told by my lovely readers!) that make my characters come alive.
The inspiration behind the setting of my first novel was Port Isaac in Cornwall. Have you seen the show Doc. Martin? It's the same village. If you've read my book, Laura's Bed and Breakfast cottage is in this idyllic setting. What more could you want? A beautiful English village, seaside views and rolling green hills, and of course, a very handsome village vet.
There's tales of loss, grief and new starts within this novel. A rollercoaster of emotions for each and every character, but the emphasis here isn't just on love, it's based on friendship. I've been very lucky in life to have a husband and son who are my soul mates, my best mates and my go-to for everything, but I also have a bunch of amazing, wacky, loyal friends and as much as this book is dedicated to the life I'd love to live, it's also dedicated to everyone of them. My book would have sat on my laptop, unread if it wasn't for their encouragement and so, here I am, three years later, fulfilling my number one bucket list, and I've never looked back.
